Overview

Hank's Frozen Custard, nestled at 13940 Conneaut Lake Road in Pennsylvania, stands as a cherished ice cream destination known for its rich, velvety frozen custard made the old-fashioned way. Since 1952, it has built a loyal following that spans generations, delivering simple yet unforgettable frozen treats that embody tradition and quality.

The menu highlights capture the essence of classic indulgence. Signature items like the Turtle Sundae and Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae showcase a masterful balance of creamy custard, warm fudge, and nutty or fruity accents. Fans repeatedly praise the generous layers of hot fudge, a hallmark that elevates every bite. Meanwhile, the Raspberry Truffle Sundae and Black Cherry Sorbet offer a refreshing contrast, perfect for those seeking a tangy, sharper note alongside the custard’s richness.

Hank’s Frozen Custard cones, whether the classic chocolate custard or the twist of raspberry sherbet on vanilla custard, deliver a perfectly smooth texture and nostalgic flavors. These are ideal for anyone craving a straightforward, satisfying treat. The desserts appeal broadly to families, locals, and visitors, especially those who appreciate a time-honored recipe and a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. The outdoor picnic tables foster a casual, welcoming environment where customers enjoy their custard amidst the charm of its small-town setting.

Customer experience reflects decades of consistent quality and warm service. Longtime patrons, like Randy Alan Shaffer, treasure the familiar softness and flavor consistency, while first-timers are often captivated by the surprisingly rich textures and flavors. Servers at the window consistently provide friendly, accurate service, adding to the overall comfort of the visit. However, it’s important to note that Hank’s operates on a cash-only policy with an ATM on site and does not offer indoor seating or restroom facilities—a reminder of its old-school roots.

The frozen custard itself is a standout, creamy and thick with a perfect melt that some find challenging to keep up with, a sign of genuine freshness and quality. At the heart of northwest Pennsylvania’s summertime outings and year-round indulgence, Hank’s Frozen Custard is more than just a stop; it is a local institution. Whether you’re making a deliberate trip or a spontaneous stop, the luscious custard and thoughtful toppings make it a must-visit spot for anyone who values authentic frozen desserts made with care and tradition.

I’ve been coming here for the past 20 years. I love Hank’s soft serve and also they’re shakes and sundaes. I just recently had their turtle sundae which was so good. Ask their sundaes come with a lot of fudge (which I prefer). You can’t go wrong with the classic soft serve in a cone though. Be sure to stop by this staple of an establishment.

Gotta be good if the have been doing it since 1952. The old machines make some great frozen custard. Only bad thing was I couldn’t keep up with the melt. The ground and my shirt looked like a chocolate accident victim.

Delicious custard!! We only get to stop in a few times a year, as the drive is over an hour, but it's always worth it!! Hank's always has the sweetest girls working the windows and orders are always correct. We love Hank's! Cons: they only accept cash (although they have an ATM on site) and they don't have a restroom available.

If you’re in NW PA, you have to go to Hank’s. Incredible custard. Cash only when I visited, so make sure to bring some along.

Iconic, landmark place in Meadville! A must-visit place if you're in the area. We visited in early April after lunch, and it was still cold too, not exactly ice cream weather for most, but we wouldn't miss it. It came highly recommended by my mother-in-law, who grew up in Meadville and did not disappoint. Even with the cooler weather and time of day, there was still a small line when we arrived, and more people showed up afterward as well. All good signs of good food. The line went quickly, and our order was taken quickly as well. Our order came out pretty quickly, in about 10 minutes or just less. Everything was amazing! Loved it so much I forgot to take pictures of the ice cream order for the review. I got the hot fudge brownie sundae, and it was aaaaammmmmaaazzzziiiinnnnggg! The frozen custard it is renowned for is every bit as good as we were told. Absolutely wonderful taste and quality. Made the old-fashioned way. There is no dining in. Either you eat in your vehicle or on outdoor, unsheltered picnic tables, but that doesn't matter. I could imagine this pace being packed every day and night during the summer! Highly recommended to visit if you're in the area. We will definitely return when we visit Meadville again.

I was in town for business and asked the account I was visiting if there was any local places I should check out while in town. They recommended Hank's. They even knew the flavor of the day which was Cappuccino. It's a roadside Custard place and all I can say is WOW. I ordered the Cappuccino as did my travel companion. Review= ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it was stellar! super tasty and refreshing. Probably the best Custard I've ever had! I'm from Pittsburgh and will totally put this on my great reason to take a road trip list. After my first visit, I would totally recommend this place.
